In March of 2015, Director John Lawrence and DP Tim Murray traveled to the Philippines to create a feel-good piece for Honeywell. The Ngolos school in Guiuan, Philippines, was wiped out by a category five typhoon and then rebuilt by the generous donations from Honeywell employees.
John and Tim traveled over 17,000 miles round trip to bring the story to life with their Honeywell clients. Told with interviews, b-roll, and news footage of the Typhoon, the piece was a big hit with Honeywell audiences and helps to reinforce the importance of this type of corporate philanthropy.
The crew took a minimalist approach – partly out of necessity, as they needed to fit all equipment on an eight-seat prop plane between islands when traveling from Cebu to Guiuan in Eastern Samar. They used two cameras – a Sony FS7 and Canon 5d, and relied on two 1 x 1 light panels and a flex fill for lighting. In the end, this was a moving experience for the crew from Honeywell and Ventana Productions, as the new school offers huge promise to over 300 schoolchildren facing poverty and the relentless yearly typhoon season.
